Breathe Easy Counselling provides counselling and evidence based psychological therapy  therapy practice owned and operated by  Kellie Myers, Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AASW).  The practice is located in the Atherton Tablelands in Far North Queensland, just one hour from Cairns.  Kellie provides a range of treatments as listed below;

Mental Health Treatment 

Kellie has a passion for supporting individuals to improve their Mental Health and she works with a range of Mental Health conditions including but not limited to;  Depression, Anxiety, Adjustment Disorders, Eating disorders, Personality Disorders and Trauma. Kellie takes a person centred and holistic approach to therapy and strives to provide a culturally safe experience for her clients.  Kellie draws from evidenced based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Attachment Based Family Therapies and  Compassion and Mindfulness approaches.  Fundamental to her practice is her Social Work skills in working with complexities in peoples lives.  Kellie's practice is focussed on helping people to better understand and manage their emotions and build insight into themselves, to improve their overall quality of life.  Kellie primarily works with youth and young adults however accepts referrals outside of this scope also.

Disordered Eating and Eating Disorder Treatment

Kellie  works with individuals to help them restore their relationships with food and their bodies.  Kellie believes strongly in addressing these issues early to prevent disordered eating behaviours becoming established eating disorders such as Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, Other Specified Feeding, Eating Disorders (OSFED) and Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder.  Kellie has a background in nutrition as well as psychological therapies, which means she can both understand the impact of eating disorders to a persons health, as well as therapeutically support people to improve their eating behaviour and body image.

Trauma Recovery 

Have you been through difficult times in your life that you continue to suffer from?  Past trauma has a way of  disrupting our current lives and can cause overwhelming emotions that can be difficult to manage.  Trauma memories continue to pop up until we can understand our trauma responses and make sense of our experiences.  Kellie works with trauma survivors of all ages including those who have suffered  as a result of Sexual Abuse, Domestic Violence, Complex Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.  Kellie uses an Evidence Based framework to help people understand the impact of the trauma on their lives and build in new skills to help with managing overwhelming emotions.  Kellie primarily draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Trauma and utilises Mindfulness based approaches to help people find peace in their lives.

Aged Care

Kellie works in Residential Aged Care Facilities with older people suffering from poor mental health or those at risk of developing a mental health condition.   Whether it's those who are newly arrived into residential care facilities or long term residents, mental health issues are known to affect over half of residents in residential care facilities.  Kellie runs a weekly mindfulness group for residents in one residential care facility located in the tablelands.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) 

If you have a psychosocial disability, you may need regular mental health support to help you manage your symptoms, or develop skills to help you in your daily life.  Kellie accepts referrals for clients under an NDIS packages and is able to offer creative, flexible and client centred approaches.  Kellie develops individualised treatment plans with clients, designed to worked towards the individual’s’ goals such as building capacity, increasing independence, managing mental health symptoms or overcoming mental health conditions.

Children under 12

Kellie accepts referrals for children under the age of 12 who may have experienced trauma, are struggling with a mental health condition.  Kellie utilises a range of creative and play based approaches to address mental health concerns in young people.  When working with children, where possible, Kellie seeks to have parents and guardians involved in treatment interventions.
